7 People Killed by Floods and Landslides in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Indonesia || Stay In News
Stay In News - The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General Suharyanto of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, reported the latest update regarding fatalities caused by floods and landslides in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. He stated that as of yesterday, seven bodies have been found.
“Yesterday (Wednesday), the North Tapanuli authorities reported no fatalities. But today, suddenly seven people were discovered dead. At the landslide site, it is suspected that the Regent may still be in the area. Hopefully that is not the case. There may still be dozens of victims, which is why the data remains dynamic and we update it every day,” Suharyanto told reporters at the BNPB headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (27/11/2025).
Suharyanto explained that transportation and communication access in Aceh and North Sumatra remain disrupted. He added that the main road in Tarutung is still blocked due to landslides.
“The route from Tarutung heading south toward Central Tapanuli is still inaccessible because the border area of North Tapanuli remains completely covered by landslide debris. Neither motorcycles nor cars can pass, leaving many communities unable to receive logistical support,” he said.
He further explained that the route from Central Tapanuli to Sibolga was also isolated for a time, preventing optimal distribution of supplies. However, BNPB has deployed a Caravan aircraft to deliver emergency logistics.
Additionally, BNPB and the Indonesian Military have sent two more helicopters to facilitate the distribution of aid.
“To reopen the severed routes, heavy machinery has been deployed, and we hope the roads can be cleared gradually,” he added.
